High Speed Broadband

Notes:

“High Speed Internet Now Available in Becket Woods!”

Residents of Becket Woods can now enjoy high-speed broadband internet service throughout the community. Stay connected with faster, more reliable access for work, streaming, and everyday online needs.

Hard-wired 1 Gig broadband is available in Becket Woods. This direct connection ensures smooth streaming, dependable video calls, faster downloads, and seamless support for remote work and smart home technology.

Most Homes Are Already Connected

Most homes in Becket Woods are already connected. If you buy an existing home and see a router with a Whip City sticker, you are already wired. All you have to do is sign up for internet service by calling Whip City customer support at 833-991-9378 or selecting Becket Broadband on the Town of Becket website. For TV service, you will need to subscribe to a streaming service such as Hulu, Direct TV, etc.

If You Need a New Connection:

If you are building a new home or are buying one of the few homes that is not already connected, the details below are relevant for you.

  1. You will need a physical connection (cable) that runs from our broadband backbone at the street to your home. The contractor who does the work will also install a router in your home to broadcast the signal.
  2. Then you need to sign up for internet service.  Both of these can be arranged by calling Whip City customer support at 833-991-9378 or clicking on Becket Broadband on the Town of Becket website.
  3. If you want TV service, you will need to subscribe to a streaming service such as Hulu, Direct TV, etc.

Note: Homes on Fred Snow Road are usually serviced by running an above-ground cable from a service pole. Whip City can inform you about fees for hook-up.

Homes that front on other roads (Woodmere, Longview, etc.) are usually serviced by underground cables since our other utility (electric) is delivered that way. Becket Woods installed poles in a few locations instead of underground conduit for technical reasons.

Since the Town of Becket paid for the pole-based backbone throughout Becket, the residents of Becket Woods had to pay the additional cost of putting our backbone underground or installing our own poles. New Becket Woods connections (not on Fred Snow Road) must help defray the cost of this investment.

To complete your connection, two fees are required. These fees apply only for new connections where your home is not currently physically connected to the network.

  1. An infrastructure fee of $3,500 from the Becket Woods Community Association to help defray costs previously incurred for the infrastructure needed to support the network.  This fee only applies to locations served by underground electric service or Becket Woods-owned poles.
  2. A one-time connection fee to the Town of Becket.  Please go the Town of Becket Broadband site to sign up for internet service which is located at https://whipcityfiber.com/becket.  Once you sign up the Town will survey your property and advise what their connection fee will be. This cost will depend on the distance from your home to the street. It will be lower if you have already installed a conduit from the street to your home for electrical service. And there may be a subsidy from the town depending on when you install. Costs in 2025 have been between $1000 and $5000 depending on these factors.

We understand that this is a complicated topic. Please contact Howard Buxbaum (howardbuxbaum@gmail.com) or Greg Chetel (gchetel@gmail.com) at Becket Woods for more information.
